iMonster Classic – Hero Adventure Review

From the same team behind Stickman Master and Idle Defense: Dark Forest comes a new exciting mobile game that takes you to an exciting colorful adventure. iMonster Classic is a new game by Loongcheer Game that takes you to a unique dungeon crawling adventure. Instead of a typical hero, the game features a brave monster who will set himself into an epic journey to rescue the Devil King who was captured by the evil Humans. The king was imprisoned at the top of the Ruling Tower and your mission is to make your way to the top and defeat all the enemies that you will encounter along the way. The Gameplay

It is very interesting to note that iMonster Classic is currently on its Early Access phase. The game is still under development but you can see its huge potential. The mechanics for this game are generally simple and easily manageable. You start the game with character creation. The player can customize the monster by picking his preferred color, hair, eye, mouth, ear, horns, and tail. Once done, you will be prompted immediately to your camp where you will be guided by Shanull. Your main adventure will take place right after you have entered the Ruling Tower.

iMonster Classic is a Rougelike RPG which takes you to a nostalgic adventure. The game features classic dungeon-crawling gameplay where you navigate tile-based levels. Simply tap any of the floor tiles to move around the stage. Tap the enemy to execute an attack. Unlike most of the modern RPGs that are optimized for mobile, iMonster Classic remained faithful to the classic non-automated combat system. Once you attack an enemy, your action buttons will pop up on the screen that allows you to activate special skills. It also gives you access to your Health and Mana bar as well as action buttons that allows you to view the enemy’s profile and to escape the battle.

A Nostalgic Dungeon Crawling

Generally, iMonster Classic works like a classic dungeon crawling game. However, instead of moving down, your character needs to find a way up. Each level comes with a stair that allows you to move up to a higher level. The rate of difficulty will drastically increase as you progress to higher levels until you have reached the final stage where you need to defeat the boss.  Like most Roguelike RPG, loots will play a huge role to improve your character and to maximize your chances of surviving. You can get loots from the enemies you killed or from various items like chests, vases, and barrels that are randomly scattered all throughout the map.

Loots or drops can either be an armor or gear, a weapon, a special item, gems, accessories, and many others. Some of which can be equipped while others can be sold at the store. Each armor or weapon comes with different levels of rarity and equipping the right one is absolutely important to improve your hero’s attributes.

Simply tap the Character icon on the lower right corner of the game screen to access your inventory. Here, you can get all the details about your character including your attributes, your inventory, and access to your Monster DNA. You can equip items like a vest, gloves, boots, pants, belt, necklace, belt, rune, and helmet to increase both your defenses and damage rate. Every time you earned a new level, you also earned Gene Points. This allows you to activate more of your Monster DNA (it allows you to learn more skills or increase your character’s special attributes).

Upgrading Your Hero

Like any RPGs, upgrading your hero is extremely important to make your character more efficient and also to maximize your chances of surviving. To do so, you must equip your character with armors of higher kind or rarity. Check the attributes of each item and see how it can drastically improve your efficiency. You can also upgrade the weapons and gear by heading back to your camp. There are only two ways to go back to your camp. The first one is by collecting enough Mana points and the second one is if you get killed. You can collect Mana points by killing enemies and as well as by interacting with water fountains that are randomly scattered on the tower.

If you get killed, the game will offer you two options; the Death Contract or the Soul Contract. If you picked the Death Control, you will be resurrected back to the camp but you will lose most of your loots as well as the items that you already equipped. The Soul Contract, on the other hand, will resurrect you back to the camp without any loss. However, you have to pay 600 diamonds to obtain this contract. If you do not have enough currency, you’ll end up picking the Death Contract so try to observe your health bar in every combat and prevent your character to get killed at all costs.

Once you are in the camp, you can upgrade your weapons by approaching the blacksmith. Other features can be unlocked as you progress including an access to Item shops and many more. Blacksmith can forge your weapons with special gems to drastically increase their attributes. This can also be done with the weapon to improve its overall efficiency.

Other Noteworthy Features

The camp comes with many other interesting features that you can explore. There’s a repeatable Quest system that allows you to earn great rewards, daily login bonuses, and a warehouse to keep your excess items. I also like to note that the game comes with a very limited Inventory. You can add more space by purchasing them through the in-game premium currency (diamonds). Diamonds can be earned through watching reward videos (you will encounter blue birds on the tower that will offer you to watch videos in exchange for diamonds.

The camp also features an Equipment store where you can buy and sell items. There is also an Item Shop, a Blacksmith shop, and other areas like Decomposition, Synthetic Array, Monster Hall, Lottery, Jeweler shop, and more. You can also earn buffs by watching rewarded videos.

The Verdict

iMonster Classic will surely provide you a very nostalgic gaming experience. The game managed to capture the classic Roguelike RPG gameplay while successfully incorporating some modern approaches to it. Appearance-wise, iMonster Classic is an absolute visual delight. The game provides you with visually stunning details and is also accompanied by a piece of well-fitting music that makes this game absolutely worth exploring. Also, the idea of putting a monstrous creature as a protagonist against human villains is also an interesting approach that makes the game unique and special among the rest.
