Heroic Expedition Review

Heroic Expedition is a new mobile game published by NGT Games and is currently on its Early Access phase. This colorful role-playing game will take you to an epic adventure where you gather your ultimate team of heroes and rebuild your kingdom back to its former glory. Heroic Expedition is a wonderful merge between a role-playing game and a tactical card battle with some empire-building and gacha system elements. Your main mission is to enter and win a series of epic battles by skillfully using the right set of cards and deploying your ultimate team of heroes. The Gameplay

The mechanics of the game are generally simple and easily manageable. As soon as the game starts, Heroic Expedition will prompt you immediately to the Divine Realm. This realm or manor will serve as your kingdom that you must constantly upgrade to gather various resources. Located below the main screen is a separate panel with five icons that will give you access to Adventure, Summon, Hero, Tribe, and Chat. On the far right side, you’ll have icons for Task, Mail, Friends, Backpack, and Setting while the opposite panel gives you access to Event, Login Gift, and 1st Top Up. There is also a Construction Icon located on the lower right corner that allows you to build structures for your kingdom.

Adventure is where the main journey will take place. Tap the Adventure icon and hit the Challenge button to enter the battlefield. Take note that this game also comes with AFK features that allow you to earn resources (gold, elixir, and exp points) while you are not actively playing the game. Before entering the battle, you will be asked to deploy your preferred heroes. You are only allowed to deploy a maximum of five heroes per battle. The player can also set his preferred cards before entering the battle. You can have a maximum of 12 cards per battle so better choose wisely.

Pick The Right Cards

As soon as the battle begins, it prompts you immediately to the battlezone. By default, your team will be placed on the lower half of the arena while the enemies will take the other half. It is important to note that the battle comes in two phases; the card round and the battle round. During the card round, the game will draw five random cards from your card set. Each card will consume a certain number of mana points when it is deployed.  The player is given a limited number of mana per round and the capacity will gradually increase as you progress.

The cards will vary in terms of their effects. Some magic cards can inflict direct damage to opponents right after you deploy them on the field. The effect of other magic cards will only take place during the battle round. Some cards can dramatically increase your heroes’ attacks, some can boost their stamina for a short period of time while others can either lower the enemy’s attack or lower their defenses. Since the cards are drawn randomly, it cannot guarantee players to have the same success pattern for every round. However, each card can be upgraded to make them more effective. To do so, visit the Card House in the Manor. You can Ascend cards to increase their attributes and make them more efficient in every battle.

Summon Heroes

Of course, this will not be a Heroic Expedition without the heroes themselves.  The best way to win the battle is by deploying the right team of heroes. After you are done deploying the cards, you may now end your turn by tapping the Round Over button. This will prompt you to the battle round where both parties will take turns attacking each other. Take note that you cannot manipulate this round because the battle will run automatically. However, if their energy bar went full, they can launch their ultimate attack that can inflict massive damage against the enemy.

The cards you deployed may also affect their efficiency especially when their damage rate is drastically increased or when their defenses were slightly improved. Just like the cards, you can also increase your heroes’ efficiency by upgrading them. Head over the main menu and tap the Hero icon from the lower panel. The Hero page will showcase all the heroes that you have unlocked. Tap their respective profiles to upgrade them. Hit the Level Up button to dramatically improve their attributes (HP, Attack, SPD, and Armor Level). You can also Ascend them by offering other heroes as tributes. Interestingly, you can also upgrade their individual skills. You can also improve their attributes by adding and enhancing runes.

Empire Building and Gacha System

Aside from upgrading your heroes, another important element of Heroic Expedition is the manor. It is very important to constantly improve your manor to make you more efficient and to gather more resources. Interestingly, you can construct many buildings on your manor. Each comes with a different function. Some of which allows you to earn additional resources like gold and elixir while others will give you access to various places. The structures are categorized into three; Building, Resources, and Decorations. Building structures will allow you to unlock special buildings that give you access to dungeons, expedition, and arena.

Resources buildings, on the other hand, allow you to generate more resources like gold, elixir, and gems while Decorations can turn your empire more colorful. To earn new heroes, you can use the game’s gacha system. Tap the Summon button from the main menu and start recruiting new heroes. There are three types of Summon in this game; Epic, Legendary, and Guaranteed Epic/Legendary. Epic Summon requires a common summon stone and it gives you a chance to summon heroes with Epic rarity. Legendary Summon requires a certain number of gems (premium currency) and gives you a greater chance to summon heroes with Legendary rarity. Guaranteed Epic/Legendary Summon, on the other hand, requires Legendary Summon stone and as what the title suggests, this type of summon guarantees you to get either an Epic or a Legendary Hero.

The Verdict

Heroic Expedition might still be in an Early Access phase but you already see the game’s huge potential. The game comes with an overwhelming number of great features to explore. There are multiplayer campaigns that you can access through Arena and as well as the Tribe system where you can participate in massive Tribe War or be part of Mystic Exploration. Appearance-wise, Heroic Expedition is an absolute visual delight. The game treats you to a visually stunning graphics and impressive character designs. It is also complemented with a beautiful piece of well-fitting music and audio effects. Definitely worth exploring!
