Unlike most typical mobile RPGs today, this game takes you to a 2D world where everyone is a hero. The main objective is to stand out above the rest. Become the most powerful hero of them all by fighting against a seemingly interminable number of monsters and competing against an endless number of players worldwide. This game managed to merge both Idle game elements with multiplayer functions. The Gameplay

The mechanics for Heroes Town Online are generally simple and easily manageable. Compared to most MMORPGs today, the game comes with simple and less complex rules. It follows the story of a chosen hero who is summoned by the goddess named Estella. You, along with other heroes, will try everything to bring the world back to its former glory by defeating all the evil forces. Interestingly, much like a standard RPG, the game starts with character creation. The game follows no class system and you can use any weapon of your choice. In the character creation page, all you need to do is to pick your preferred features and create your very own hero.

After creating the character, the game prompts you immediately to Heroes Town. The game features a 2D side-scrolling screen but when you are in town, you cannot manipulate your character’s actions. All you can do in the town is to interact with the buildings by tapping them. Each building takes you to different places like shops, arena, and more. The main interface is simple yet a little confusing. On the bottom-most part of the screen are tap-based buttons like Event, Pension, Friend, Ranking, Mail, Costume, Shop, Guild, Character, and Hunting. Your level status can be found on the top-left corner while all your virtual currencies are displayed on top.

Hunting Phase and Quest System

To engage yourself in battle, simply tap the Hunting button on the bottom right. This will take you on the world map. It features places like Novice Forest, Demon Forest, Hero’s Town, Challenge Tower, Fallen Dungeon, and Orc Town. Your adventure starts with the Novice Forest but before you can access a level, you will be asked to defeat the Boss first. Once you have completed the Boss Challenge, you can now freely access the level at any given time. The combat system is simple. You can either go Manual or Auto Mode. When doing manual, you can move the character in the 2D side-scrolling battlefield using the virtual. It is just one platform and enemies will just start spawning on both sides. To attack, use the tap-based buttons on the bottom right. You can also take advantage of your skills for bigger damages.

Heroes Town Online also comes with a unique quest system. Unlike typical RPGs, you don’t have to approach NPCs to accept missions. The quests are automatically given to you depending on the area you are exploring. The quest log will appear on the far right side of the game screen every time you are making progress. Once you have completed the quest, you can return to the Hero’s Town and visit the “Kingdom”. Approach the NPC and tap on the Quest button to claim your rewards. The game comes with five types of quests including the Daily Quests, Weekly Combat, Weekly Guild, Achievements, and League. Your quests are repetitive but they will become more demanding as you progress since the target numbers are increasing exponentially.

Combat System, Dungeons, and Massive Upgrades.

Of course, Heroes Town Online will not be completed without its multiplayer functions. The multiplayer element in this game can be found through its PvP Combat Arena and Guild system. Here’s what makes the game unique. Prior to the battle, you are given the chance to equip yourself with potions. The capacity of potion that you can equip depends on your current level. Potions will vary in terms of their functions. The potions can improve your health, increases your damage, speed, and accuracy. Now, when engaging in combat, these potions will automatically be used. Some will work right after you got heavy life damage while most of them work right away at a certain time duration.

For PvP, simply tap the Combat Arena in your Hero’s Town. Tap the combat button and the system will randomly generate an online player for a duel. You need Waystones to access the arena. The result of the battle will depend on the character’s attributes as well as the type and amount of potions they are carrying. If you run out of potion, then there is no other way for your character to heal and there will be a great chance of losing. Challenge Tower will be accessible upon reaching a certain level. This prompts you to a progressive battle against an endless number of monsters. The higher the floor you reach, the more challenging the battle will be. The game also features a massive upgrade system. You can upgrade almost anything from costumes to skills. You can also enchant weapons to make them more efficient in your battles.

The Verdict

Heroes Town Online is a simple yet surprisingly fascinating MMORPG. It may not take you to a huge open world like most MMORPGs today but still worth exploring. The missing storyline, however, is a major downside for this game and it could have made this game even more engaging if they put decent depth to it. Appearance-wise, this game is surely a visual delight. It pays homage to those old school browser-based MMORPGs adorned with colorful characters in creative anime-inspired style animation. The game can be repetitive especially when you have reached higher levels. It is also interesting to note that the game features mini-games that you can freely explore.
