Conquer Online is an Oriental-inspired MMORPG that takes you to an epic adventure. We have seen a lot of Asian MMORPGs that follows almost the same concept. Interestingly, Conquer Online is not different from them at all. The game captures everything we can expect from an old school RPG. Conquer Online is actually not a new game. It was first launched as a browser-based MMORPG and eventually ventured into Facebook and now, the game finally made it through the mobile platform. It’s safe to say that this game is considered to be a cult classic in MMOs but with so many great mobile games today, where exactly Conquer Online can fit itself? The Gameplay

The game went through many updates and revisions but still remained faithful to its classic theme. Although the game is considered to be classic, I personally have mixed thoughts about it. The game has so many notable flaws that require massive improvements and yet you can still see its full potential. Conquer Online doesn’t have much depth in its story. In fact, the game will not even welcome you with any cinematic introduction like what most MMORPG does. Despite the missing element, the game will offer you an impressive number of classes to choose from. Currently, the game offers nine different classes. Each comes with its own impressive character design, skills, and attributes.

Like most RPGs, the game starts with character selection. The classes include Windwalker, Trojans, Ninjas, Saint (Monk for Male), Dragon Warriors, Archers, Pirates, Warriors, and Taoists. After selecting your preferred class, the game will prompt you immediately to Twin City where your adventure starts to take place. The interface of the game is quite complex and the controls are quite unique. It comes with an Auto-Play (auto path-finding) that allows your character to move from one area to another without the player interaction. When in manual gaming, you can navigate around the virtual world by tapping any of the visible areas.  Yes, there is NO Joypad in this game which makes navigation quite a challenge.

Quest System and Massive Upgrades

Just like any RPGs, Conquer Online will rely heavily on quests. The Auto Path-finding makes it easy for the players to track their quest without manually searching for the next NPC or the next monster area. I highly suggest that you take advantage of its Auto-play system because the manual navigation for Conquer Online can be very tricky. First of all, the navigational map is extremely small. You can find the map on the upper right corner of the game screen. The legends, however, are not clear enough as the map only shows red dots to indicate monsters but other than that NPCs and online players are not visible and trackable on the map. It is also very odd to see how the character navigates from one area to another. Instead of walking or running, the character can be seen hopping endlessly.

You can also teleport yourself in a specific area using the Auto-Pathfinding features. One thing you will surely appreciate in this game is the massive upgrade options. You can equip your character with an overwhelming number of fashionable items and you can also enchant them to help you increase your attributes and make you more efficient in battles. The same thing goes with weapons. Skills can be found on the lower panel and they should be tapped manually to activate them. Conquer Online also has an impressive drop rate. It comes with a very generous drop rate that makes looting and grinding quite exciting. Sadly, the combat system is poorly executed in this game.

PvP, Dungeons, and Pay-To-Win System

Of course, this game will not be considered as MMO without its multiplayer functions. The players are freely allowed to interact with other players. Twin City alone is already populated by various online players around the globe. You can trade items with the players or add them to your friend list. Players can communicate with other players using the interactive chat system. However, Conquer Online has many abusive players that you must try to avoid at all costs. These players who are already powerful enough will hunt weaker players and kill them mercilessly. I personally had many encounters and I got killed numerous times while trying to accomplish my quest. The game should have added a Karma system to refrain from other players from abusing their power.

Dungeons are also present in this game and mostly overrun by dark creatures. Another notable downside of the game is the constant glitch. You will encounter many bugs in the game which might force you to restart it. Also, even though the game is free, there are many premium items you can purchase in their in-game shop to make your character more powerful. This turns Conquer Online a Pay-to-win game as those players who purchased CPs (premium currency) will get a bigger advantage towards others who did not purchase anything.

The Verdict

Conquer Online has great potential. Sadly, the game remained faithful to its classic version without giving any major improvements that will make the game more enjoyable. Appearance-wise, the game is still a visual delight and will treat you with remarkable graphics. It is adorned with many Oriental details that take you to Ancient China. The fashion items are one of the interesting additions in Conquer Online that allows you to equip amazing outfits. Both game controls and navigation systems require major updates. Overall, Conquer Online is still worth exploring. It may not be perfect but those who grew up with this MMO will surely find it nostalgic.
