Way back in 2002, Artix Entertainment introduced us to the exciting world of AdventureQuest. It’s a critically-acclaimed browser-based MMORPG that took us all in an epic action-packed adventure. Now that the flash game era is over, it is not surprising for Artix Entertainment to venture into mobile gaming. Wonderfully, those who have experienced playing the early AdventureQuest games will have a great new reason to rejoice. The game finally made its way to the mobile platform though AdventureQuest 3D. Yes, as what the title of the game suggests, the game is now presented in an impressive 3D which is way far different from its predecessors (AdventureQuest and AdventureQuest Worlds respectively). The Gameplay

Unlike the early AdventureQuest games, AdventureQuest 3D is absolutely a big leap from its predecessor in terms of graphics and gameplay. The first AdventureQuest is presented in a 2D side-scrolling environment with anime-inspired character designs. Graphics and gameplay were both drastically improved when AdventureQuest Worlds was launched in 2008. AdventureQuest 3D, however, is simply beyond expectations. It offers a vast of wonderful improvements in terms of graphics, gameplay, and storyline. If there is one thing that they all still share in common, it is the humor that is seemingly a trademark for Artix Entertainment.

AdventureQuest 3D follows a story of a fallen hero who finds himself trapped into hell. Luckily for him, Death lost his Key to the Land of the dead and was stolen by another creature named Vane the Voidking. Death has chosen you as his champion and you must help him retrieve the key in exchange for a new life. As you encountered Vane, you were overwhelmed by his power and easily got defeated. You were thrown far far away (in a very hilarious way I must say) and eventually found yourself in the land of Battleon where your journey will start to take place. The mechanics for AdventureQuest 3D are generally simple yet surprisingly tricky. It comes with skill-based combat that requires you to establish an effective strategy to maximize your chances of winning.

Impressive Story-based Quests and Non-Auto-Play Adventure

AdventureQuest never failed to deliver an impressive and compelling storyline and AdventureQuest 3D managed to give an equally-fascinating plot for players to explore. Of course, it includes all the funny humor that AdventureQuest is greatly known for. Like any RPG, the game starts with character creation. There are three first classes to choose from including Mage, Rogue, and Warrior. Each class will vary in terms of their skills and attributes. After selecting your preferred class, you can also customize the character and change its appearance based on your preferences. There are many combinations possible or if you are lazy to mix and match, you can simply tap the Random Look and let the game generate a character for you.

The official journey will start after you were thrown away to Battleon. The only way to defeat Vane is to look for the legendary weapon. To do so, you must activate all the runes and access the portal that can take you to the legendary weapon. In the entire course of the game, the player will be asked to accept quests and navigate the open world, perform various tasks and fight against different creatures. Unlike most MMORPGs today, AdventureQuest 3D will not rely on Auto-play features. Navigation and Combat were both done manually which adds a decent challenge in this game. Located on the upper right corner of the game screen is your quest card along with a small yellow arrow that will guide you on your quest. It comes with coordinates to indicate how far or how near you are to your next destination. To engage in combat, simply tap the enemy and start using your skills. There are tap-based buttons on the bottom right dedicated for your skills and you just have to come up with an effective strategy to win especially when dealing with field bosses and dungeon creatures.

Customize Your Hero, Party System, and Events

Another impressive element in this game is the ability to customize your hero and give it a unique appearance like no other. Unlike most MMORPG that comes with default gear set and armors, AdventureQuest 3D gives you freedom. Most gear and armors are obtained through looting and as long as you are on the right level, you can equip these items right away and see how your character transforms itself into a good-looking hero. Gear and armors can either be equipped or simply be worn as a costume (which means your character attributes will not be affected by them). The game’s job tier system is also an interesting addition to AdventureQuest 3D. There are Tier I and Tier II classes to achieve.

The progression for AdventureQuest 3D, however, is quite slow compared to other RPGs. It takes a lot of hard work and grinding to reach a new level or rank. This is where the Party system comes extremely beneficial. You can ally with other players and let them accompany you in some important and challenging missions. Players can also add other players on their friend list and take advantage of the chat system to communicate and you can even summon or teleport your friend to your current location. Dungeon raids and boss battles may welcome up to 20 players. Other noteworthy features include pet system, crafting, and travel forms (you can transform yourself into various creatures from pigs to dragons).

The Verdict

AdventureQuest 3D is truly beyond expectation and Artix Entertainment did an awesome job as they ventured to mobile platform. It was a big and drastic leap from their early games and it was truly amazing. The way to deliver the impressive and well-crafted gameplay while incorporating it will their trademark humor is just a perfect blend that makes this game absolutely worth exploring. Appearance-wise, AdventureQuest 3D is truly a visual delight that treats you with remarkable 3D graphics in an immersive 3D open world.
