Sometimes you don’t need a striking visual to enjoy a great game. This is what exactly you are about to experience when playing Curse of Aros. It is a simple yet surprisingly captivating adventure game that takes you to a seemingly endless journey. Curse of Aros is generally a retro-inspired MMORPG where you find a seemingly interminable number of monsters, discover valuable items and explore a huge map. Basically, you can do almost anything in this game and unlike your typical RPG, this one follows no quest and no story at all. If you are looking for a simple yet addictive adventure game, Curse of Aros is definitely a great fit.

The Gameplay

The mechanics for  Curse of Aros are generally simple and easily manageable. As soon as the game starts, it prompts you right away to the battlefield. It means that you will be using a standard male avatar and you have no other options to customize or personalize your character. In fact, you will not undergo any training or brief tutorial either. It’s a simple and straightforward adventure game. The goal is to set yourself in an epic adventure and discover your character’s full potential.

Curse of Aros doesn’t just come with simple rules, it is also known for its simple gameplay and controls. Players can navigate the 2D map using the virtual joypad located on the bottom left of the screen. There are two tap-based buttons on the lower right that allows you to attack nearby enemies and also to pick up loots. It also gives you the option to cut woods but such feature is not yet functional and will surely play a huge role in the game’s future development. If you enjoyed playing some classic retro games like Legend of Zelda or even the old Pokemon, Curse of Aros is definitely a visual treat.

Nostalgic Retro MMORPG

The pixel art graphics of the game provides an amazing nostalgic experience. Despite lacking the option to create and personalize your own avatar, the game still comes with many surprising features. As you navigate the map, you will encounter an overwhelming number of players. Since the game is currently on its Beta Access phase, there is no option yet to interact directly with players. However, the game comes with a Chat board where you can freely broadcast a message. Eventually, this will be a platform to buy and sell items to other players. Trading is not yet present in Curse of Aros but it could be an interesting addition knowing that this game will merely focus on looting.

Speaking of loots, each monster will drop an item or two. To grab them, simply move over to the item and the box located above the attack button will change. Tap the item to pick them up and it will be sent directly to your inventory. To access the inventory, tap the Bag icon on the upper right corner (just below the Gear icon). It will take you to your Inventory page which allows you to equip and wear items., Some loots are in forms of weapons while others are in forms of armors. Much like a typical RPG, weapons and armors can be worn only if you have reached the required level.

Destroy Monsters

The monsters in Curse of Aros are exactly what you can expect from a standard MMORPG. Each type of monster can be found in a specific area of the map. All Level One Bats, for example, can only be found on a certain area of the map. Monsters are not hostile and will only attack you if you provoked them. Regardless of the level, you can attack any monsters along your way. However, you have to make sure that you are either strong enough to defeat them or you are equipped with enough healing potions to survive the battle. The stronger the monster you defeat, the bigger the experience it will provide and the faster for you to level up.

To make your character more efficient in every battle, you must never forget to equip him with any available gear. If you are lucky enough, you might discover rare items that will make your character more powerful. Interestingly, the map is also changing based on the current season. The most recent update for Curse of Aros turns the world into a snowy and Christmas-like environment. Since the game is still in its beta phase, it’s understandable to encounter many flaws. There are many missing elements in this game and we’re hoping to see more on its future developments.

Simple, fun, and surprisingly addictive. This is how you can perfectly describe the Curse of Aros. I have to admit that there are still many missing elements that need to be added in this game. It doesn’t have a story yet which is very essential in any RPG and it doesn’t have a well-polished Multiplayer function yet. However, we can confidently say that this game has a lot of great potentials. Appearance-wise, the game managed to capture an amazing retro-inspired world and is also perfectly matched with well-fitting music and sound effects.
