Those who have downloaded PopCap games on their PC way back in early 2000s must be well-aware of this game called Chuzzle. It is a colorful tile-matching game that features these adorable fuzzy creatures known as chuzzles. The main objective is simple, beat the level by clearing as many chuzzles as possible until you have reached your target goal. Interestingly, this nostalgic puzzle game finally made its way to the mobile platform. Raptisoft released a sequel Chuzzle 2 that wonderfully captures all the exciting elements that we enjoyed from its successful predecessor. If you think you are skillful enough to master this tile-matching game, feel free to explore Chuzzle 2 and see how far you can go.
The Gameplay
The mechanics for Chuzzle 2 are generally simple and easily manageable. As far as the gameplay is concerned, Chuzzle 2 offers the same puzzle, the same set of challenges, and the same game modes while still offering new elements that make this sequel worth exploring. Chuzzle 2 doesn’t come up with any compelling story but it features these colorful alien-like fuzzballs. As soon as the game starts, it prompts you to the first level that features a standard 6×6 grid. The grid is filled with colorful chuzzles. To remove the chuzzles from the board, you must skillfully match three or more chuzzles of the same color.
Unlike the typical match-3 puzzles, however, in order to create a match, the player must drag an entire row or an entire column. If three or more chuzzles of the same color were positioned adjacent to each other, they will be cleared off the board. The game comes with various modes and each comes with different objectives. The most common of them all is the classic Bottle-Up mode. Your goal here is to clear as many chuzzles as possible until you have filled up the flask bottle located above the board. Each stage is composed of multiple levels of different modes. You need to beat all these levels in order to progress to the next stage.
A Unique Match 3 Puzzle
Chuzzle 2 is definitely not your typical match 3 puzzle. It is not done by swapping single tiles just like how Bejeweled works (another match 3 tile-matching game by PopCap). Simple yet surprisingly tricky. This is probably the best way to describe Chuzzle 2. As the game prompts you to the small 6×6 grid filled with colorful fuzzballs, you must establish an effective strategy before making a move. Some levels will feature obstacles that can limit your movement while other levels are being timed. It is important to visualize the puzzle carefully while exerting the best of your eye and hand coordination, especially when dealing with timed levels.
As mentioned above, matching chuzzles is done in a unique and surprisingly tricky manner. Instead of swapping two adjacent chuzzles, you need to drag and entire row or an entire column just to make a match. This is called “wrapping” in which chuzzles on the left reappear on the right, top reappear on the bottom, and vice versa when being dragged. There are also modes where you don’t have to make a match of three or more identical chuzzles. Instead, you will be asked to recreate the required pattern.
Explore Various Modes
One of the great things about Chuzzle 2 is that you get to explore various modes. You are not going to settle with the same gameplay for the entire course of this game. To beat the whole stage, you must be skillful enough to complete all the levels that feature different modes. Each stage starts with the “Chuzzmama”. Right after completing the level, the chuzzle will release another set of chuzzles on different platforms. Each color represents different modes. There’s the classic Bottle Up mode in which the goal is to clear as many chuzzles as possible until you have filled the flask bottle on top.
Sun Chuzzle mode requires you to turn the entire 6×6 board into gold by matching chuzzles. Chuzzles in Chain mode, on the other hand, requires you to break all the locks while Speed Chuzzle will ask you to fill the bottle while racing the lock bar to win. There’s also a classic Chuzzle Mind Bender mode where you can move the chuzzles freely and match the pattern to win. The rate of difficulty for each level will drastically increase as you progress which makes the game thrilling and challenging at the same time.
The Verdict
Chuzzle 2 managed to capture all the exciting elements that we get from its successful predecessor and it is nice to see that Raptisoft wonderfully optimized the classic game for our mobile devices. Appearance-wise, the game doesn’t change much compared to its PC version. It captures the same retro-inspired graphics while incorporating the game with well-fitting music. The game also features other exciting elements such as the Chuzzarium where you can collect and feed various chuzzles and the Puzzle Room which grants you exciting rewards and collectibles. Currently, the game is available for both Android and iOS devices and you can download this amazing puzzle game absolutely for free.
